Skin Biomechanical Properties in Autonomic Neuropathy: Focused on Spinal Cord Injury and Diabetes Mellitus
Park Ji-Woong

Abstract
The individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) and diabetes mellitus (DM) have experienced a lot of complications or changes of the skin. However, these problems except pressure ulcer have been easily overlooked because they rarely make life-threatening events. Furthermore there are many unsolved questions about the altered skin. As autonomic nervous system can influence the skin condition, we hypothesized that the SCI and chronic DM subjects with autonomic
neuropathy may have the changes in the skin biomechanical properties. This article contains a brief review of literatures for the skin characteristics and the results of recent researches about the skin biomechanical properties in the subjects with SCI and DM according to the various physiologic conditions.
